I've successfully completed my first week of my internship (woohoo!) It's not exactly what I expected though. I mean, I'm not running around grabbing coffee and doing errands for the editors and writers-I'm actually writing! But I don't have a whole lot to do for the majority of the time-hence, the reason I started this blog in the first place. Although I've spent hours downloading music and catching up on the trends on Twitter and Tumblr, I've had the chance to write, and that's all that really matters. My first two articles were published today and seeing my name in print never gets old. This week I had to write some small stories on a black bear sighting, volunteers needed for a social service, and then a fun-creative piece on Father's Day. All of it is great, and I'm not complaining. Next week, I'll be starting stories that deal with CT's Summer Concert Series, upcoming art shows and new museums, and of course, concerts. I've come to realize that if you set a goal in life, it's going to take a long time to get there. I started writing at my school's newspaper since my first semester of college, and only recently, I became the Editor of the entertainment section. That was my first step on this journey. The next step was scoring an internship here. Next summer, I'll be interning in NYC, and if I happen to get an internship with my dream magazine, well, I'll be more than thrilled. It's not going to be easy, and I won't always be writing the stuff I want. It'll all be worth it. As I sit here in my cubicle in this empty newsroom, I just have to remember-in two years, I'll be getting paid to write at my dream job, with a press pass to concerts, covering incredible artists. I could not be more excited for the road ahead, but for now, it's just one step at a time.
